Filter Maintenance

The Importance of Maintaining Your OTR High-Performance Air Filter

Maintaining a clean air filter is essential for optimal engine performance and longevity for high-performance street cars, race cars, and recreational vehicles like ATVs and UTVs. These vehicles often operate in demanding environments, making the air filter a critical component in ensuring that only clean air reaches the engine. Over time, air filters can become clogged with dirt and debris, leading to several issues that can compromise performance and efficiency.

Improved Engine Performance

A clean air filter allows your high-performance engine to breathe more easily. In racing and off-road environments, where every bit of horsepower matters, a clogged filter can restrict airflow, causing sluggish acceleration and reduced power. Regular cleaning ensures your engine gets the necessary air supply, maintaining its peak performance.

Enhanced Fuel Efficiency

A clean air filter helps maintain the optimal air-fuel mixture, which is crucial for fuel efficiency. A dirty filter can lead to increased fuel consumption in racing and recreational vehicles, where fuel efficiency directly impacts performance and range. Keeping the filter clean ensures you get the most out of every fuel gallon, whether on the track or the trail.

Extended Engine
Life

Dirt and debris can cause significant wear and tear on your engine’s internal components if they bypass the air filter. This risk is amplified in high-performance and off-road vehicles that operate in harsh conditions where engine protection is critical. Regular air filter cleaning minimizes the chance of contaminants entering the engine, thus protecting it from unnecessary damage and extending its operational life.

Maintaining a clean air filter is crucial no matter your driving environment. Regular cleaning is a simple, cost-effective maintenance task that ensures your engine runs at its best, no matter the conditions.

Filter Cleaning Instructions

Keep your OTR filters performing at their best with these safe and effective cleaning steps:

Remove the dirty filters from your vehicle

Cleaning Methods

Using Compressed Air:

  – Ensure the air pressure does not exceed 60 P.S.I.
  – Blow air from the inside of the filter to the outside until all dirt and dust are removed.

Using Water:

– Pre-soak the filter media with cool or warm water.
– Apply a mild soap or multi-purpose cleaner i.e. (Simple Green) to the water
– Rinse the filter from the clean side outwards until the water runs completely clear.

Drying the Filter

– Allow the filter to dry completely around 48hrs
– Avoid using heat or hot air.
– Placing the filter in the sun or in front of a fan can help speed up drying.

CAUTION:

For sprint car filter models, handling the filter properly when using water is crucial. Before cleaning, place the filter on a flat surface such as a table, driveway, or shop floor. The filter’s weight, when soaked, can damage the rubber seals if mishandled. Pre-soak, spray and rinse the filter while it lies on a flat surface to prevent any damage.
